Renewing Our Vows at Brighton
My husband and I have been together 26 years in December and married for 20 in February. We never had a "real" wedding on that crazy 2007 Valentine's Day storm. We kept telling ourselves that we would do a vow renewal down the road. Five years, 10 years, 15 years pass and we still had yet to plan anything.
We had planned a fall camping trip 10/2 - 10/4 at Brighton State Park with my husband's brother and his brother's girlfriend. I go, why don't we just do it there, at the camper's beach? We have been camping at Brighton for 12 years and it's absolutely our favorite place to camp.
So the planning began! The park manager, Lisa, happily agreed to perform the ceremony. It was a "need to know" basis so only a handful of our family/friends knew. My best friend brought our son up the second day to be part of the ceremony. We kept it very simple and sweet.
When I arrived at the beach, I was surprised to see one of the park employees, Kacey, laying down hearts made from cedar bark! She then offered to be our photographer. Lisa and Kacey went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make us feel special in that time.
Brighton will forever be our happy place and where we have spent the majority of our family camping trips. It only made sense to do our vow renewal there. It was perfect weather with some of our favorite people.
We look forward to many more camping trips and memories at Brighton.
