Our family refers to Lake Shaftsbury State Park as a “hidden gem” because this small park is the perfect size for family outings and a lovely day of fun at the beach. We’ve been coming to this park for years and see the same families each year. We live in New York State and every weekend we make the short trip to Lake Shaftsbury to spend from open to close at the park and sometimes return the next day!
We love to spend summer holidays at the park: Memorial Day, Father’s Day (the park has handicapped access right down to the water for my dad!), July 4th, Labor Day…One of these years, we’d love to be able to stay and rent the “cabin home” on the lake! The staff feel like family and welcome us every year. The lake is crystal clear (you can see fish and frogs) and almost always warmer than you’d expect! The activities are endless. You can fish, boat, swim, play outdoor games, or check out the nature trail and hike around the lake! There is a small concession stand and two sets of bathrooms, beautiful pavilion on the lake for gatherings, plenty of grills and picnic tables, and there always seems to be ample parking.
There is nothing we like to do better than visit the beautiful Green Mountain State and breathe in the fresh mountain air while enjoying some of the best that nature has to offer! We’ve been to many of the VT State Parks. ALL are gorgeous and different, but Lake Shaftsbury is our number one home away from home park.
