Learning to Drive

I grow up in Cambridge and lived 10 miles from Mt. Mansfield. When my sisters and I were old enough to start driving, our father taught us by having us drive through the notch. It was nerve wracking, but we all made it through without a scratch on the car. He had the patience and calmness that we needed.

The Notch has a long history and very unique configuration. When I travel through it I make sure to see if the natural spring is running off the cliffs, and that is one of my favorite sounds. As a child it was always a wonderful experience, and I have happy memories of picnics and the cool air on a hot summer day.
